Dan Cautis was employed by Georgetown University between 2006 and 2015 as Associate Vice President at Georgetown University. Within UIS (University Information Services) as Director of IT Infrastructure Operations he was responsible for the university’s Data Centers, Computer Operations, Network Operations, Application Production Services, Change Management and Disaster Recovery.

Currently he is an advisor to Qualitance Corporation and within the Georgetown University he teaches, as adjunct professor, the following courses: Church and Science – A Historical Perspective where he analyzes the complex philosophical and political interaction between the scientific developments and the Catholic Church dogma from the High Middle Ages until the present time.
Artificial Intelligence and Transhumanism where he teaches about the scientific and philosophical background of state of the art developments like Technological Singularity, Artificial Super Intelligence, Nanotechnologies and analyzes the ideas and the lively debates within the “Transhumanist Community” that believes in the applications of these technologies to develop a “posthuman” being with longer life and superior intelligence.

As visiting professor and invited corporate speaker Dan also teaches courses in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning using Python implementation of algorithms (with focus on artificial neural networks, data pattern recognition and classification, linear regression, deep learning and reinforcement learning).

Prior to Georgetown he has been a senior executive at companies like Maxtor, Seagate, Maxoptix, Western Digital, Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) where he led large engineering teams and developed successful strategic partnerships in China, Japan, Thailand with reputed industry leaders like Mitsubishi Chemical, Pentax, Minebea.

For many decades Dan has taught Curriculum University and Postgraduate Courses in electrical engineering (at the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, Romania, University of California at Berkley Extension) and numerous non-curriculum liberal studies courses and seminars in history of sciences and religion-science relationship. He is the author of three patents, and has published many papers in the field of electrical engineering/control systems.

His main interests (beyond the management and engineering activities) are in the ongoing debates about the scientific-religious interpretations of the fabric of the universe in light of the newest quantum mechanics and cosmological discoveries and theories (Big Bang and inflationary cosmology, multiverses, standard model and string theory); he is also interested in predictions about the future of human race given accelerated scientific and technological developments produced by the predicted Technological Singularity and the rapid advances in the availability of new computer technology (especially in the domain of artificial neural networks and reinforcement learning) leading to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and eventually to Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI).

Horia-Roman Patapievici is a physicist, writer and researcher in the domain of the history of ideas. His cultural and scientific interests range from physics and philosophy, to theology, mathematics, history, literature, poetry and music.
Born in 1957, he wrote before the fall of communism over twenty volumes of essays, fiction and poetry that had never been published, rejecting any form of public presence in a society controlled by the communist regime. After graduating and becoming an expert in physics, in 1982, he worked as a researcher and taught at university level until 1994, when he chose, as a public intellectual or participant in the reform of some fundamental institutions of the public sphere, to fight for the construction of a state subject to the rule of law and for the enforcement of liberal democracy.
Between 2000 and 2005 he was a member of the leadership on The National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives, where he militated, against the government’s decision, in favour of unrestricted access of all the citizens to the archives of the former communist regime. He was, between 2005 and 2012, the president of the Romanian Cultural Institute, where he radically reformed the concept of promoting abroad the national culture, choosing to promote not „the official culture”, but the individual initiatives, developing partnerships with individual artists and establishing direct contacts between national and external cultural markets. He founded and run, between 2004 and 2009, Idei in Dialog (Ideas in Dialogue), a monthly of intellectual and critical debate.
Since 1992, he has published over one thousand articles in the daily and cultural press, in which he militated in favour of the values of the classical liberalism, rationalism, Christian humanism and economic freedom, against collectivism, postmodernist relativism, moral amnesia and the abandonment of European values, against the contemporary repudiation of the classical, humanist and Christian heritage. His journalistic activity and his trenchant public interventions brought him lasting aversion and hatred from the part of nationalists, fascists, former Securitate officers, socialists, postmodernist relativists, anti-Semites and the champions of an isolated, orthodox, nationalist and anti-American national culture. Since 2008 he has been the constant target of despicable attacks from televisions run by press moguls, in which he has been presented as an anti-Romanian and as a promoter of anti-national values.
Since the summer of 2010 he has not written any article for the press, and after 2012, when he left the Romanian Cultural Institute, he has retired from public life, devoting himself to writing, reading, contemplation, and to friends. After the active life, the philosophical life.
